4 Ways to Use Mica Powder
Mica is a group of minerals with similar physical and chemical traits. These stones boast shiny flakes, which result in fine glittery grains we like to refer to as mica powder. This shiny and vibrant dust is then used to dye different objects and surfaces.
In the following blog, we’ll be looking at some of the best applications of mica products.
1. Handmade Soap
Mica powder gets on like a house on fire with homemade soap. You can pour and stir some into a soap base after melting it and incorporating all the other ingredients. Just remember: the color intensity depends entirely upon how much powder you’re using in relation to the quantity of your soap base.
The standard ratio is usually a half teaspoon for every pound of soap, but you can play around with quantity and see how the color turns out. Practice makes perfect, and you’ve got plenty of time until Christmas to stir your presents to perfection!
2. Handcrafted Candles
Speaking of Christmas, you can also add a personal touch to the most common holiday present of all time: candles!
This year, mind your own beeswax (literally!) by getting it in white and pairing it with your favorite mica dye. Be sure to stir in the powder before pouring in the piping hot wax into a mold. The standard ratio is usually a teaspoon for every 16 ounces of wax.
You can also paint the finished candle with the dye instead of mixing it into the wax, but that would just betray the white wax once your recipient burns the candle.
3. One-of-a-Kind Paint
The possibilities are now endless when it comes to paint colors, or at least tantamount to the mica powders at our store. You can just select a shimmery bit of grain and turn it into a one-of-a-kind custom shade of paint.
Create paint that sparkles and translates perfectly on paper, wood, cardboard, and metal surfaces. Play around with your ratio to tweak the vibrancy and produce dim to bright paint colors.
4. DIY Cosmetics
Mica powder translates perfectly on cosmetics. You can use it to create personalized lipsticks, nail varnish, eyeshadow, color corrector, eyeliner, and so many other makeup items of color.
Not all powders are safe for personal applications, but that’s not the case with our powders. In fact, we can say with full confidence that any cosmetics you create from our dyes will last long without causing any long-term harm to your skin.
